Homemade Kahlua

Labor Day is right around the corner and before you know it, the holidays will be here. My sister-in-law, Joanie gave me this recipe for Kahlua years ago. ( It tastes just like the real thing.) We used to make it a month or two before the holidays. Tie a festive ribbon around the neck of the bottle and bring it along when visiting friends and family during the holiday season.

Kahlua

2 cups water

2 cups vodka
4 cups sugar
1 vanilla bean
2 oz instant coffee, unprepared

Bring water to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and coffee until dissolved. Set aside and cool. Add vodka . Pour mixture into a dark glass bottle. Add vanilla bean to bottle. Cap bottle and store for at least 30 days in a cool, dark place.

** Great for making my favorite...... White Russians. Yum.
